Calco — Privacy Policy

Calco ("we", "the app") helps you track calories, macros, weight, and water. This policy explains what data the app handles and why.
Data you provide
- Profile: sex, age, height, weight, activity level, goal, body-fat % (optional), and preferences (units, language, theme). Used to compute your calorie/macro targets.
- Diary & logs: foods you log, weigh-ins, water, and reminders you set.
- Account (optional): if you create an account, your email address and authentication identifier.
How data is stored and synced
- All your data is stored locally on your device by default.
- If you sign in, your profile, diary, weigh-ins, water, and custom foods are synced to your private cloud space (Google Firebase / Cloud Firestore) so they're available across your devices. Only you can access your data.
- If you publish a food to the community library, that single food's name, brand, and nutrition (not your diary) becomes publicly visible to other users. This is opt-in per food.
Third-party services
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics) — account sign-in, cloud sync, anonymous usage analytics, and crash diagnostics.
- Google AdMob — advertising shown to free-tier users (Premium removes ads). AdMob may use device identifiers for ad delivery and measurement. In the EU/UK we present a consent choice.
- RevenueCat — manages Premium subscriptions and purchases (no card details are seen by us).
- Open Food Facts — food search queries are sent to look up products; identified by a
Calco/1.0user agent. - Apple HealthKit (iOS) — with your permission, the app reads your active-energy (calories burned) to show in the app. This data stays on your device and is not uploaded; the app does not write to Health. On Android, Health Connect import is not part of this release — the app requests no health permission.
- AI features (when enabled) — if you use the optional AI coach or photo meal recognition (a Premium feature), the relevant text or photo is sent to our backend and to an AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the response. Photos are processed to estimate nutrition and are not stored long-term.
- Camera — used only to scan barcodes and (optionally) photograph a meal. Images are not stored or shared except as described above.
Your choices and rights
- Export: export your diary and weigh-ins as CSV at any time (Settings → Data).
- Delete: erase everything the app holds on this device at any time, with or without an account (Settings → Delete all data). If you have an account, Account → Delete account additionally removes your cloud copy and closes the account.
- Permissions: camera, notifications, and health access are optional and requested only when you use the related feature; you can revoke them in system settings.
- Analytics/ads: you can limit ad personalization via your device settings and the in-app consent choice (EU/UK).
Data retention
We keep your synced data while your account exists. Deleting your account removes it. Local data is removed when you uninstall the app.
Children
Calco is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region) and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be noted with a new "Last updated" date.
